In the lexicon or glossary explains abylonsoft topics of general interest around the offered software products, computers and technology. The column with the letter W contains 5 entries, like for example Windows Login.

Column W 5 entries

Windows AllUser

Programs and services can be run under MS Windows in different contexts. This assigns delimited address spaces to the processes in order to minimize security risks from unauthorized access to external processes and files. In the case of AllUser applications are executed independently of the user and can therefore be used by any user. The software abylon APP-BLOCKER lists the found entries next to the logged in user User seperately for all other users. Under AllUser you can also find processes which are executed under System, Network service, Local service, Database or others. These processes or services have different or extended rights and enable communication via delimited address spaces.

Windows Autostart

The Windows autostart is a specific folder where references to a program or file can be stored. All references there are automatically executed during Windows logon. For this reason, many programs use this option to be started and available immediately after Windows logon. However, this is not always necessary or desired. In addition, each entry slows down the startup process and reduces the available processor power. For this reason these entries should be checked from time to time and unnecessary entries should be removed. This can be done manually via the start menu under All Programs -> Autostart or with the application abylon APP-BLOCKER. This checks additionally further possibilities of Windows, in order to start programs automatically. This includes for example the registry entries Run or RunOnce in the registry.

Windows Login

The use of computers is usually protected by a user account control. This allows multiple people to use one computer at the same time while protecting data. When logging on to Windows, the user authenticates himself with his user name and password. Depending on the system, it is also possible to log on to Windows using a hardware key, such as a USB token or chip card. If the authentication is correct, the user is logged in automatically and his user account is opened. This process is also called Login (Log-in), Logon (Log-on) or Signin (Sign-in). Depending on the user profile, the user has different rights. More or less programs can be executed or access to certain memory areas is restricted. After the work is done, the user logs off (logout) or shuts down the computer. With a new session the Windowsanmeldung takes place by a renewed authentication and the following logon at the associated user account.

Alternatively, login is also referred to as logon.

Windows User

In the Windows operating system, processes can have context-specific rights and are executed in a fixed address space. This approach can have a security advantage because processes cannot easily access foreign address spaces and processes. The builds on this user account control. This was introduced by Microsoft from Windows Vista in order to limit possible damage to processes. The software abylon APP-BLOCKER distinguishes for autostart entries, registry entries, services and processes between the currently logged on user User and independent of the user AllUser and lists the found results in a tree list.

A special user is the system user who runs in the background and generally has administrative rights. One limitation is the limitation to the local computer and the prohibition to perform actions over a network. Services often run under the system user context.

Wipe Fastmode

Wipe Fastmode is an optimized method developed by abylonsoft to quickly delete the header information of large files. Thereby 10 percent of the beginning and end of the file are deleted, which results in time savings of up to 80 percent. Files smaller than 10 MB are also completely overwritten in the deletion mode "Wipe_Fastmode". This procedure is also used in the software abylon SHREDDER.
